A Patriotic Salute this 4th of July

4th of JulyAmericans celebrate Independence Day annually on July 4th.   Most believe that July 4, 1776, was the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed and that America was born. However, July 4, 1776 was actually not the date that the Continental Congress declared us a free nation. That took place two days earlier, on July 2, 1776. It also is not associated with the first draft of the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson, as that document had been written a month earlier. July 4th was not even the day that the founders signed the famous Declaration.

July the 4th is actually the day that the final draft of the document was approved by the Continental Congress, after much editing and discussion. As such, the it was dated July 4, 1776 and the rest is history. In 1870, almost a century after the Declaration was written, Congress first declared July 4 to be a national holiday. Through the years, the wearing of red, white and blue , display of the flag and fireworks to celebrate have become our most time honored traditions.

Here at Zeidler’s Flowers, we also celebrate our rich heritage with festive bouquets of carnations, lilies, delphinium and more. As a decorative addition to your picnic or family gatherings, consider our Patriotic Fresh Basket, full of colorful blooms and American flags this 4th of July.
