Since the earliest recorded cultures, people have revered their mothers. In 1908, a woman named Anna Jarvis began to push for a national holiday to honor mothers; her dream was realized in 1914. Ironically, after the day became a wildly popular and commercialized event, Ms. Jarvis spent the latter half of her life trying to remove the day from the calendar.

Although some may find the widespread celebration of Mother’s Day commercial, there is no doubt that it remains a time-honored way to thank Mom for all the ways she has cared for you throughout the years.
