Here in the Evansville area, the top three months chosen for weddings are June, August, and September, and in reality only about one-tenth of ceremonies take place during February. After all, it’s a bit chilly at this time of year. But the National Association of Bridal Consultants shares that the designation has less to do with the number of weddings and more to do with the scheduling of the weddings. 2.4 million weddings occur annually, and most in February take place on one specific day – Valentine’s Day. That single day inspires 6 million wedding proposals every year, and is one of the most popular dates chosen by couples to walk down the aisle.

Valentine’s Day is not the only February day popular for Evansville area weddings, however.  Occurring only once every 4 years during leap year, February 29th affords brides and grooms a unique opportunity for an interesting wedding story and is a coveted date.

But none of those facts represent the real reason that February is known as National Wedding Month. Although February does result in a lot of marriage proposals, that number is still minimal compared to the many millions of couples who get engaged between Christmas and New Years Day. According to wedding industry statistics, February is the month during which those newly engaged couples get serious about their wedding planning. Whether booking venues, ordering their dress, or retaining the hottest band, there is a significant increase in qualified inquiries and bookings during February.
