What is Grandparents’ Day?
Grandparents Day has been celebrated in the United States since 1978 and is designed for the grandparents on both sides of one’s family. Marian McQuade of West Virginia is largely credited as being the founder of this special holiday. She had made it her life’s goal to educate people about the valuable contributions of seniors throughout history. In the early 1970’s she began urging each states to proclaim their own Grandparents’ Day and quickly saw success. It was signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 to honor the contributions made by grandparents for their children’s children.
