Sweetest Day is a Midwest tradition, a holiday observance which began in Cleveland OH – but do you know what the origin of this sweet day is? While many assume it is similar to Valentine’s Day, the intent behind the day was actually not romance.
In 1922, several local candy companies banded together to distribute over 20,000 boxes of chocolates to nursing homes, orphanages, and to the homeless. The event was a huge success, receiving widespread, positive media coverage. While the initiative caught on, some questioned the motives of the businesses. Still, the day has continued to grow in popularity, and has evolved into an occasion set aside for acts of kindness. Zeidler’s Flowers has the floral designs, gifts, and chocolates you’ll need to make someone smile on October 21.
Did You Know? Chocolate and flowers share one common attribute- both have been proven to elevate our moods and promote happiness. So while the original Sweetest Day was organized to bring joy to those down-and-out through candy, these days we can send encouragement and support though the gift of flowers. We love cheerful gerbera daisies, sweet pastel roses, and carefree hydrangea – but you can choose any flowers you love!
